The Abana Foundation was recently blessed to receive a very generous anonymous donation for The Children’s Academy. The donors expressed a desire to continue the construction of the Academy and was hoping to inspire others to help in completing the building of the amphitheatre and observatory at the Academy.

The cost of this project is roughly $30,000 and after receiving $15,000 to be used toward the construction, we weren’t quite sure where we would be able to secure the other $15,000. Abana had just held our annual event to fund the Abana feeding and scholarship programming. All of our committed donors had been tapped out in this unprecedented year. It seemed like we would need to wait a year or two until this dream could become a reality. But that’s when God stepped in!
After talking to Fr Leszek and sharing the exciting news, he had the idea to reach out to a few friends in Poland who are familiar with The Children’s Academy and his projects. Maybe someone would be able to help a bit and then little by little, we could find others to join us.
The very next day, Fr Leszek made a call to a kind man in Poland who had recently visited Kibeho. As he heard more about the needs at The Children’s Academy, he was really interested in helping. And just as God would have it, he quickly agreed to send the other half needed to complete the project! Just like that...we had all the funds necessary to finish!
SO WE WERE BLESSED NOT ONCE….BUT TWICE!
When Fr. Leszek called to share the good news, it reminded us so much about how Jesus encouraged his disciples when they thought that things looked impossible. Do you remember the verse? Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." -Matthew 19:26
We are really excited about this phase of The Children’s Academy. The amphitheater will be an amazing space where the students can both be educated and encouraged by artists AND showcase their own talents. The observatory will serve as a new opportunity for our friends to learn more about the great big world that God has created. It will be home to a high end telescope where they can gaze at the stars and dream about new possibilities.
We are very grateful for this blessing, we are grateful for our friends in Rwanda, and we are grateful for YOU! Together we can continue to offer learning opportunities for students in English and afford scholarships for students who are working to secure a future.
As we start this New Year, we pause and thank God for your generous hearts. We pray for peace and a year FULL of blessings!
